Kanye West and Jay Z announce (separate) Verizon Center dates

Way back when Jay Z was Jay-Z, he and Kanye West claimed dominion over the District of Columbia with a powerhouse performance at Verizon Center, ripping through 37 songs in succession, setting the bar at "I want you to remember this night for the rest of your lives!" Remember that night in 2011?

With "Watch the Throne" aging nicely at the bottom of a Spotify playlist column, the artists have moved on individually; today, both Kanye and Jay Z announced separate plans for Verizon Center shows.

Let's start with Kanye, who embarks on his first solo tour in five years in support of the mesmerizing "Yeezus." His D.C. show is set for Nov. 21 with Kendrick Lamar as his opener. An on-sale date hasn't been announced.

Jay Z's 34-date Magna Carter World Tour comes to D.C. Jan. 16. Yes, he just played Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium with Justin Timberlake but, as we all know, you can't knock the hustle, even if "Magna Carta Holy Grail" amounts to "the sound of champagne being sprayed around an empty locker room." Tickets go on sale Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. through LiveNation and Ticketmaster.
