Taut and gripping, the English foursome Savages has been one of the most buzzed-about bands of 2013. Their angular, aggressive post-punk recalls Joy Division, Fugazi and Public Image Ltd by turns, and the group's sold-out July show at the Rock and Roll Hotel will end up on more than a few "Best of 2013" lists. It's not a surprise that a quick return to Washington finds them in the much-larger confines of the 9:30 Club.

It's a big night for beer lovers across the region, with three different (and very cool) tap takeovers at local bars:

Harrisonburg's 3 Brothers Brewing makes its official Northern Virginia draft debut at Rustico in Ballston, where you can try nine kinds of beers, including Rum Barrel-Aged Belgian Dubbel and Southern German Pilsner, and pick up free glassware.

Perennial Artisan Ales has made a splash with its imaginative Belgian-style ales, and you can try seven of the St. Louis brewery's offerings at Scion, beginning at 5 p.m. Head brewer Cory King will be there to chat about his beers, including Peach Berliner Weiss, Barry Rye (a blackberry rye ale) and Plan B, a sour mash Belgian dark ale brewed with black currants. All Perennial beers will be half-price all night.

You might see a lot of events sponsored by Goose Island this week: The team from the Chicago brewery is in town for four nights of events at different locations. Their Wednesday night pitstop at ChurchKey, hosted by brewer Dave Tohtz, features 10 drafts, including the 2012 Bourbon County Brand Stout Cherry Rye – a version of the sought-after bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout that adds cherries – and the Night Stalker Imperial Stout. Six more Goose Island beers will be poured from bottles, including the 2010 Bourbon County Vanilla Stout and the 2012 Bourbon County Coffee Stout. You may want to call in sick Thursday.

It's time to face that summer is ending. The Hill Country Backyard Barbecue, which has been equal parts neighborhood picnic and community festival the past four months, is leaving the National Building Museum's lawn this weekend. But before the tents are taken down, there are a few more chances for fun. Chief among them: the Hari Karaoke Band, which backs amateur singers at Hill Country's weekly Rock and Twang country karaoke, is performing Thursday at a special al fresco karaoke night. The band plays from 5:30 to 9 p.m., but you'll want to get there earlier to pick a song -- the list fills up quickly. While you wait for your moment in the spotlight, grab a hunk of smoked brisket and a side (potato salad, coleslaw or cornbread) for $10.

If you need even more proof that 14th Street NW is ground zero for restaurants in D.C., tune into the Cooking Channel on Thursday night. "Chuck's Eat the Street" is a travel show that finds host Chuck Hughes visiting a series of restaurants located on the same road. The new Washington edition finds Hughes at Estadio, the Pig, Black Jack and Busboys and Poets. Both Black Jack and Busboys will be hosting free viewing parties for the 10 p.m. broadcast; Black Jack's includes $5 cocktails and a free raw bar from 9:30 to 11:30.

The Mixtape Dance Party is aptly named: When Shea Van Horn and Matt Bailer are on the decks, you're never sure what you're going to hear - Robyn or Whitney Houston remixes, Kylie Minogue or Pet Shop Boys hits, the odd throwback track from Missy Elliott or Guns N' Roses. What you can be sure of, though, is that the songs will flow like an expertly curated mixtape made by your most clued-in DJ friend. The monthly night has been a bit nomadic in recent years, hopscotching between the Black Cat, Town and the Howard Theatre, but it's celebrating its fifth anniversary at the Howard this week. Bring your dancing shoes.

SpeakeasyDC is known as a performance incubator for storytelling, but it has taken on a multidisciplinary approach for a new exploration of go-go music. Created by director Jess Solomon, "Crank & Groove: A Go-Go Love Story" features the all-female go-go band Be'La Dona as a pit orchestra supporting a collection of stories delivered by Washington artists connected to the go-go scene. The cast includes author Natalie Hopkinson, go-go journalist Kevin "Kato" Hammond, playwright Nina Angela Mercer and dance crew Da Originalz. It plays for two nights at the Atlas Theatre.

The Hamilton's tribute to Bob Marley features guitarist Junior Marvin, who joined Marley's band The Wailers since 1977. Marvin's first album with Marley and the Wailers, "Exodus," is considered to be the group's best work. Marvin continues to represent the Wailers on stage and on recordings, and he has also contributed to music by Burning Spear, Beres Hammond and Alpha Blondy.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will fight for the super-welterweight title in Las Vegas this weekend, and plenty of local bars are hosting viewing parties, including the Howard Theatre, the Park at 14th, Public Bar and Penn Social. The Howard and Penn Social are selling tickets in advance ($30 and $20, respectively) that include a post-fight party with music and dancing.

Local reggae band Nappy Riddem excels at keeping feet moving while spreading a conscious message. With the new "Rock Steady" EP ready to drop on Fort Knox Recordings next Tuesday, the group – led by longtime Thunderball/Fort Knox Five singer Mustafa Akbar and DJ/producer Rex Riddem – performs its new cuts at an early show at Tropicalia. Dub Campaign opens; once Nappy Riddem has finished, the Sao Funky Saturdays dance party features DJs from Fort Knox Five, Empresarios, the All Good Funk Alliance and Nappy Riddem spinning global funk tracks.

How would you like to spend Sunday afternoon dancing to house music on a pirate ship? The Soundwaves Boat Party is taking over the Boomerang Pirate Ship, a Jolly Roger-inspired party boat with a full bar and plenty of deck space on which to groove. DJ Kevin Yost, who fuses electronic beats with a jazz sensibility, is the headliner; R&B and Chris Burns also will spin during the four-hour trip along the Potomac. Tip: Buy tickets in advance and they're $20, not $25.

Oddisee and Hezekiah rep different cities – D.C. and the City of Brotherly Love, respectively – but they share a background in progressive, soulful hip-hop that has evolved into related forms. For Oddisee, his catalogue of smart raps and organic beats is complimented by ambitious jazz-based instrumental projects. Hezekiah created the Johnny Popcorn project to explore pop and rock. Both will share the stage at Liv for one of those rare nights when Oddisee is in D.C., not touring abroad or recording in his adopted Brooklyn.
