... Georgetown's Baked & Wired.
Washington has seen dozens of new coffee shops open in the past five years, but it's the spunky, high-on-life stalwart of Thomas Jefferson Street NW -- where you've been able to pair your espresso with a cupcake for more than 10 years -- that rallied to the top of a very divided reader poll.
Baked & Wired's 10 percent of the tally hardly seems like a landslide because the 2,000-plus votes were largely split among the 30 contenders picked by the editors. This year, we experimented by splitting up locations of chainlets such as Peregrine Espresso to see whether readers preferred one location over another. (They did.) But Baked & Wired came out on top, with the Coffee Bar, Tryst, 2012 winner Blind Dog Cafe and Northside Social rounding out the top five.
