Shave the date: It's Movember, the monthlong charity event that helps raise money and awareness for both prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges. All you have to do is pledge not to shave your mustache for the 30 days of November.
Start out today with a clean shave at the Wise Owl Club in Adams Morgan. The barbershop is having a 'Go Mo!' special — half-priced shaves until 6 p.m. Nov. 1 — for anyone registered to take part in Movember. The barbershop has a Movember team to raise funds, so if you're not interested in growing a 'stache yourself, donate here.
Del Frisco's Grille is raising money all month, but their kickoff party is from 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 1 with extra deals. Proceeds from the restaurant's Movember menu will go to the Movember Foundation, and anyone with a mustache gets a free appetizers on Mustache Mondays. You can also head to Rosslyn's Continental pool hall tonight for a Movember kickoff happy hour.
Another all month special? Boundary Stone will donate 50 cents from the sale of every DC Brau Corruption ale to the Movember cause. And you can stop in to Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken for a Movember-inspired vanilla glazed doughnut with a chocolate-pipped mustache. The storefront shop is also holding a kickoff for their fundraiser on Nov. 12 by giving away 200 of the doughnuts in exchange for a donation to the shop's Movember donation jar.
On Nov. 23, join the DC Mo Bros for their second-annual H Street Movemberfest, with drink and food specials from H Street Coffee House, H Street Country Club, Shawafel, H &Pizza, the Big Board and more. All proceeds are going to charity, and there are raffle prizes, too.
Interested in growing a 'stache for a different cause this month? The D.C. chapter of the national non-profit Mustaches for Kids also dedicates November to mustache-growing, but to raises funds for the Children's National Medical Center. The chapter is having it's 8th Annual D.C. 'Stache Bash on Nov. 8. Head to Penn Social from 4 to 8 p.m. for mustache-appropriate costumes and mustache-themed events such as the Parade of 'Staches, the Beer Foam Retention Round and the Mustache Dance-Off.
