Del Ray Pizzeria to host benefit for victims of Honduras tragedy

Tragedy struck two employees of Del Ray Pizzeria last week: Claudia Yaneth Membreno Gomez, daughter and sister to restaurant dishwashers Enma and Elder Gomez, was murdered in her native Honduras, according to news reports from the Central American country. She had four children and was in the process of joining her husband in the United States.

To raise money for the family, Del Ray Pizzeria chef Eric Reid is hosting a benefit dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Half the proceeds from a three course, $40 menu will be donated to the children, as well as a charity aimed at abating violence in Honduras and Central America, according to Reid's postings on Don, which has more details on the dinner and the Gomez family.

In addition to $20 from each three-course dinner, the restaurant's owners will contribute $20 per diner out of pocket. Eighty percent of sales from Tuesday's a la carte menu will also be given to the family; bartenders and servers will throw in 100 percent of the evening's tips, and Reid will donate his salary for the day.

To RSVP for the special menu, call the restaurant at 703-549-2999.
