You won't be skating on the Lake Shaw Ice Rink until next winter, at the earliest.

Rink project overseer and community activist Lee Granados confirmed in an e-mail that plans for the rink have been postponed for this winter because funding for the project at Old City Farm and Guild has been slow to materialize. The rink was originally scheduled to open by mid-December.

Granados hopes the rink eventually becomes a hub for community events, even if that's in late 2014. In the meantime, Granados said she's planning several events at Old City to coincide with the Winter Olympics in February.

There are plenty of other places to lace up your skates, with one other notable exception: The Canal Park Ice Rink, near the Navy Yard, is still closed after a pipe beneath the rink burst back in October. The Capitol Riverfront BID's most recent newsletter said the rink is set to open Dec. 16.
