D.C. had better work up an appetite for breakfast tacos, which are the emphasis of a new expansion push from District Taco as it expands to Dupont Circle.
In an interview with the Washington Business Journal, owner Osirus Hoil said, "This is the first year that we're going to be really focused on breakfast tacos."
District Taco's present breakfast taco offerings consist of three choices: the "basic," with eggs, cheese, potatoes and unlimited toppings; the "healthy," with egg white and unlimited toppings; and the "veggie," with vegetarian pinto beans, cheese, sauteed onions and green peppers with unlimited toppings. And even though the selection is limited, those tacos have still been deemed "the best thing on the menu" by members of the GOG staff, with one former Austinite saying that they're as tasty and authentic as anything she could get from a food truck in Texas. They're $2.75 each, or three for $7.
District Taco's Dupont location, at 1919 M St., is expected to open in approximately three months, and will join the local chain's food truck and three other locations in Arlington, Capitol Hill and F Street downtown. In the meantime, here are a few other places where you can get your breakfast taco fix:
Milk Cult Sanctuary: Breakfast tacos at this Park View Patio pop-up come topped with corned beef hash and arugula, bacon and chives and even hollandaise if that's how you want them. They're three for $9, and available daily.
Taco Bamba: Victor Albisu's breakfast tacos come with breaded chicken, red rice, hard-cooked egg and peppers. They're available daily beginning at 8:30 a.m. ($6)
Pica Taco: The Florida Avenue taco shop near 14th Street does $2.50 breakfast tacos every morning, topped with eggs, black beans, cheese and avocado.
