DC Dosa, the pop-up turned healthy-foods purveyor inside the Foggy Bottom Whole Foods, is hoping to woo a few more adventurous eaters today: The kiosk will offer two of the crepe-like snacks hailing from South India for the price of of one. If you're somehow still sticking to your New Year's diet resolutions, you're probably in the clear here: Founder Priya Ammu's crepes, made from a lentil-based batter, are vegan and wheat-free.
From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., DC Dosa's counter inside the Foggy Bottom Whole Foods food court, at 2201 I St. NW, will offer a free dosa with the purchase of a regular dosa, priced at $8.
The menu options include a four-lentil crepe with garlic, fennel and red chilies in the batter; yellow lentils ground with ginger and red chilies; and mung lentils with ginger, cumin and red chilies in the batter. (My favorite is the mung option.) Diners can then choose from such fillings as the traditional curried potatoes; eggplant and sweet potatoes; and cabbage and carrots.
DC Dosa was nurtured with assistance from Kera Carpenter of Domku and Nurish, a concept Carpenter created to help entrepreneurs with restaurant ambitions learn the ropes. Nurish opened in Anacostia last weekend. DC Dosa, meanwhile, has hinted it will expand to additional Whole Foods locations this year.
