Two things I love: beer and a good cause. Thankfully, they’re coming together this month at Rock Bottom Bethesda. The brewpub’s Fire Chief Ale, which was tapped last week, is the bar’s annual gift to firefighter-related charities.
This year’s beneficiary is the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which will receive 25 cents for every $5.50 pint sold. The Bethesda brewpub raised $1025.75 for charity during the same promotion last March.
The beer itself is a nice, quenching red ale with a biscuity flavor and caramel notes. It’s not always my favorite thing on Rock Bottom’s menu -- I’m partial to Highland Courage, a malty Scottish ale that was also on tap over the weekend -- but it’s very drinkable, and worth a taste if you’re in the neighborhood.
