Through May 11: Edgy theater collective Factory 449 tackles the heavy subject of the 2006 schoolroom killings in an insular Pennsylvania community in "The Amish Project," which kicks off its run Thursday at the Anacostia Arts Center. Tickets are $20.

Friday-Sunday: What do a retired NASA astronaut, two of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, actor Cary Elwes and party-rocker Andrew W.K. have in common? They're among the small galaxy of personalities who will appear during this year's Awesome Con D.C., an ever-expanding three-day celebration of comic books, science fiction, art and music at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Tickets to events are $30-$60; get details at www.awesomecondc.com.

Friday: The Rock Creek Social Club team are bringing back their much-missed "Good Life Tuesdays" vibe at Recess. Organized by DJ Jerome Baker III, Good Life found celebrated DJs genre-hopping from dubstep to moombahton to blog rap for a crowd that was always up for a party. The weekly event ended its run in in 2012, but Baker is throwing a reunion Recess, timed to arrive the night before the Broccoli City Festival. Turn up early, and not only because it will be packed: Open bar runs from 10 to 11 p.m., and free Broccoli Fest tickets are up for grabs.

Saturday:  The next day, make tracks for the Broccoli City Festival. Now in its second year, the music-centric event was created as a way to increase awareness of environmental issues in multicultural communities. Scheduled performers include Cam'ron, Just Blaze, Kelela and others, along with a pop-up marketplace, on-site acupuncture, and pilates, yoga and dance workouts all day. Tickets for the festival, set for noon to 8 p.m. at St. Elizabeths East's new Gateway Pavilion, are $29-$45. Saturday:  Washington's homegrown beer scene has exploded in recent years, and the vanguard of the brew-it-here movement is DC Brau. To help celebrate its third anniversary, the Northeast brewery (at 3178 Bladensburg Rd. NE)  is hosting DC Braustomp, a festival of beer, barbecue and music featuring a performance by ska heroes the Pietasters, with Caz and the Daylaborers, from 4 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $12.

Saturday: If you love house and techno, there's one place to be this weekend: Echostage, where Carl Cox and Nic Fanciulli will be bringing some of that pumping Ibiza vibe to Queens Chapel Road. (Cox will be a resident at Ibiza's legendary Space club for the 13th time this summer; Fanciulli joined him there for shows in 2013.) With three decades of experience stretching from rave to acid house to deep techno, Cox is one of the most accomplished DJs around, and his sets rarely disappoint.

Saturday: Easter is almost here, and families who want to get in on the egg-hunting fun have plenty of options. Willing to cover a lot of ground? Silver Spring is hosting its first City-Wide Easter Egg HuntHunters can pick up rules at the Baltimore & Ohio train station (8100 Georgia Ave.) beginning at noon, and then start searching for hundreds of eggs hidden around the city. The free event will also include live family-friendly music and an activity station for kids.

Sunday: The White House Easter Egg Roll is the Super Bowl of all egg-related events, but it's only open to those who got lucky in the ticket lottery. Everyone else will have to look for eggs elsewhere, and Pinstripes in Georgetown is a good place to start, with 1,500 prize-filled Easter eggs lining the restaurant's property adjacent to the C&O Canal. The hunt begins at 11 a.m. Purchase an Easter basket ($4) beginning at 10:30 a.m. to participate; proceeds benefit the Children's National Medical Center.
