A pool party, a crab feast and other fun things to do Sunday

May 23

Since many people have no work or school on Monday, bars and breweries are ramping up their activities on a usually sleepy Sunday night. Here are six ways to extend your weekend.

Daylight DC was a U Street institution, building a network of devotees who came out every Sunday to sweat it out on the dancefloor to disco, R&B and house classics. It was part family cookout and part revival, and like all good things, it came to an end. When DJ Divine happened upon an irresistible venue offer, he responded to clamors from fans to bring it back, at least for Daylight's eighth anniversary. Divine reunites with his partner DJ Source for Daylight's customary Memorial Day Weekend bash, which will be held at Gypsy Sally's in Georgetown. Advance tickets are $15. Arrive early: There's an open bar from 7 to 8 p.m.  to show some love to all the longtime supporters.

Jimmy Valentine's Lonely Hearts Club is turning seven. If you've never been to Jimmy's, a sign-less bar on Bladensburg Road north of H Street, you're in for a treat. It's a low-key, one-room neighborhood bar on acid. DJs play reggae, moombahton, funky house and whatever gets people moving. Bartenders sling all DC Brau, PBR tallboys, hand grenades of Mickey's and bottles of fancy bottled beers, but the house drink is a sweet, boozy slushie appropriately named Mr. Lethal. Anyway, the anniversary party features DJs Native Sun, Team Zapata, Mettabbana and Illogic wrecking the place with deep house and bass music from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. As always at Jimmy's, there's never a cover.

For those of us who don't have a car, getting to far-flung breweries like Adroit Theory and Corcoran can be a difficult and expensive proposition – and that's before you factor in finding a designated driver. This Sunday, though, it's easy for city dwellers to sample the ales from two highly-rated breweries in Purcellville. Reston Limousine's "Loudoun West Brew Bus" tour will ferry beer lovers from the East Falls Church Metro to Adroit Theory and Corcoran for tastings, and then make a pitstop at the Catoctin Creek distillery to sample some whiskey and gin before heading back to the Metro. (There's another boarding point at Reston Town Center along the way.) The tour begins at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $39 and include souvenir glasses; beer tasting fees are extra. Sign up on the Reston Limo site.

Black Pride celebrations roll on through this weekend. There are multiple events today: The "Rock the Block" day party at the Fairgrounds from 3 to 9 p.m. with rapper Fly Young Red and DJs from D.C. and New York City; Drag queen Shi-Queeta-Lee hosts a special Pride edition of her always-entertaining "Drag Salute to the Divas" revue at the Howard Theatre; and the Batti Party at Patty Boom Boom celebrates its first anniversary with a fundraiser for JFLAG, a Jamaican organization that works with the LGBT community, and Center Global, a D.C. organization that works for LGBT rights around the world. DJs Jahsonic, John Jazz and Will Nainis spin reggae, dancehall, soca and other turns from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Admission is free.

Crab feasts are a ritual of Memorial Day weekend, and Policy restaurant and Atlas Brew Works are teaming up for a big one on 14th Street NW. A $45 ticket covers all-you-can-eat crabs, hushpuppies, corn on the cob, cole slaw and hot dogs from noon to 5 p.m. Atlas's beers, including Home Rule IPA and District Common, are $5 all day. Tickets are available from Policy's website, and a limited number will be available at the door.

D.C. public pools are the only places to go swimming in Washington this weekend: The Adult Swim pool party, which aims to bring a club-like atmosphere to the Capitol Skyline Hotel's pool deck, returns for another summer. If you don't want to deal with making bottle service-style reservations for a pool-side table, you can get on the guest list by texting your name to 202-RESERVE (202-737-3783), or filling out a form on dcpoolparty.com. Then get ready for DJs, percussionists and a pumping atmosphere. (Yes, there are changing rooms at the hotel.) Doors open at 10 a.m.
