Astro’s Old Bay doughnut fried chicken sandwich wow

There are Old Bay cheese curls, popcorn, chocolates, and beer. And beginning Thursday, fans of the spicy Maryland crab seasoning will get to try another inventive twist: A fried chicken sandwich between two slices of savory Old Bay-sprinkled doughnut.

This whimsical concoction is the work of Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken, who will put it on the menu for $9 at their G Street storefront and Virginia food truck. The Old Bay is mixed into the batter of the doughnut, as well as dusted on top of the sandwich; it comes with lettuce and tomato, and guests can choose between barbecue, blue cheese, ranch, Sriracha buffalo or or honey mustard dressing.

Also on Astro's sandwich menu: A fried chicken BLT, which we tried last year for National Doughnut Day, and a Buffalo chicken sandwich. And if you want to pair the Old Bay sandwich with Flying Dog Brewery's Old Bay-flavored Dead Rise seasonal beer? The closest place to get a pack is A1 Wines, a few blocks away.
