Capital Fringe Festival arrives

Seeing Miss Hiccup (Hiromi Yano) fish for umbrellas might be strange if this weren’t July, a.k.a. Fringe Festival time. (Charlie Kawamura/Courtesy of Infinity Live Productions)
I hope you’re hydrated, because it’s time for Washington’s annual offbeat theater marathon. The Capital Fringe Festival kicks off Thursday with a karaoke contest, live music and dozens of shows that will have you racing from Fort Fringe to Caos on F, so you better lace up those sneaks.

Curious what to see? Nelson Pressley has singled out three promising productions. I’ve also weighed in with a look at five Fringe mainstays with good track records. You can also scroll through our photo gallery of shows to see what might pique your interest.

Our team of critics will begin posting reviews on Friday. Let us know your thoughts on Fringe shows by tweeting at us using the hashtag #fringereviews.
