Missouri congressman Todd Akin’s offensive remarks about abortion and rape created a firestorm, compelling national Republican leaders to ask he drop out of the Senate race as Christian groups reaffirmed their loyalty to him. Rabbi David Wolpe of Sinai Temple in Los Angeles penned the following poem about the controversy.
Writes Wolpe:
Should Akin awaken to being mistaken
He’d know that he didn’t “misspeak.”
Now that Akin will be by voters forsaken
Their pique will finally peak,
And Akin, who’s not of self-doubt partaken
Will be “legitimately” up the creek.
