America is in a state of disarray. A look at our nation reveals some disheartening realities. Financially, we are a wreck, both personally and nationally. One hundred million people are either living in poverty or in “the fretful zone just above it.” One out of every seven people has at least 10 credit cards, and Americans are carrying a grand total of $798 billion in credit card debt (that’s $2,549 for every man, woman and child). In addition, hundreds of thousands of households are being affected by unemployment.
But the economy is not our only issue. More than five children die every day as a result of child abuse. Today, about 3,700 abortions will be performed in the U.S. And, in 1962, the Supreme Court outlawed prayer and Bible reading in school. Afterwards, we began to see SAT scores drop, violent crime rise and sexually-transmitted diseases, unwed mothers heading households and divorce rates skyrocket.
Our nation is in trouble. We’re trillions of dollars in debt, morality is in decline and the government doesn’t seem to care. So what is the solution, when politics can’t save us?
Freedom – it’s what our forefathers sought in coming to the New World and what America’s founders wanted to nurture and protect through the documents that were drafted at the birth of this nation..
Our Declaration of Independence reads, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Freedom is something our modern-day soldiers have died protecting – what they have given their lives for – to bring freedom to people who have never known it in foreign lands. But America is in need of an even greater freedom.
The greatest definition of freedom is found in the Bible. We cannot know real personal freedom without first knowing Jesus. As we look around in America, we have a sense that “somebody” should do something. The hour is clearly getting late, but what can we do?
That “somebody?” I propose that it is us, you and me. Starting right now, we can begin to help our neighbors and influence the nation, heart by heart, home by home. I have seen firsthand how the Bible helps people with all sorts of problems. I have guided them in finding and, most importantly, applying the answers. I have been an eyewitness to drastic improvements in relationships, marriages, finances and in every area of their lives. I sincerely believe that the Lord is calling, and He wants this nation back.
God has given us a way to help bring America back to greatness, one life at a time. You are not helpless; you can help bring this nation back to greatness. It’s better to light a candle than curse the darkness. It’s not about politics – it’s about Jesus.
