Virginia Tech Coach Seth Greenberg dismisses SMU rumors

Virginia Tech Coach Seth Greenberg said Monday he is not considering an offer to take the same position at SMU, contrary to rumors that began circulating Sunday afternoon. Greenberg emphasized that he hasn’t been contacted by the Mustangs’ search committee, which is being led by former Virginia Tech Athletic Director Dave Braine.

“I’ve got a daughter at Virginia Tech and a daughter who’s a senior in high school. I’m not going anywhere. I’m not going to Dallas,” Greenberg said.

When rumors surfaced that SMU was perhaps interested in hiring him for its vacant head coaching position this past weekend, Greenberg was entertaining recruits on campus, just back from his two-week long stint on ESPN during the network’s NCAA tournament coverage.

SMU fired Coach Matt Doherty this month, and the Mustangs have made it known they are infusing more money into their men’s basketball program since they are set to join the Big East in 2013.
