Virginia Tech wide receiver Jarrett Boykin will miss Saturday’s game at Marshall with a hamstring injury, the team announced Thursday afternoon. Boykin, who set the school record for career receptions two weeks ago against East Carolina, is the Hokies’ second-leading receiver this season with 10 catches for 93 yards and a touchdown through three games.
Boykin battled some hamstring issues at the beginning of training camp last month, but it’s unclear what the extent of this latest injury is, or if it’s related. Regardless, his absence Saturday comes at a bad time. The Hokies already lost senior wide receiver Dyrell Roberts for the season last week to a broken arm.
Wide receivers Marcus Davis and D.J. Coles, who had a 49-yard touchdown reception last week against Arkansas State, will see an increase in playing time as a result. For some added depth, Virginia Tech also announced earlier on Thursday that true freshman wide receiver Demitri Knowles would dress for the first time this season.
Also included on Virginia Tech’s injury report was defensive end J.R. Collins (ankle), but he is probable for Saturday’s game. Left tackle Andrew Lanier, who suffered an MCL sprain in last week, was not listed on the injury report.
