Hurricane Irene cancels Civil War events

As of Friday morning, two Civil War events in North Carolina planned for the weekend have been canceled due to the threat of Hurricane Irene as she moves along the East Coast.

The Civil War Sesquicentennial Conference sponsored by the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras scheduled for this weekend has been canceled and has tentatively been rescheduled for November.

The Betonville Battlefield's Summer Seasonal Living History Program planned for Aug. 27 at Four Oaks also been canceled. If it is rescheduled, the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources will issue a press release.
