Civil War knowledge could equal college scholarship

Ten scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 will be awarded by HISTORY (formerly the History Chanel) and Houghlin Mifflin Harcourt publishing company in a timed, inline quiz planned for April 7 to 9 which will be followed by an in-school, final exam for the top 30 top-scoring finalists, according to a press release.

Although the National Civil War Challenge is meant for 11th graders, any U.S. high school student may enter. In addition to the student scholarships, the sponsors are also offering $400 in classroom supplies to any teacher whose student qualifies for the final round of the competition.

The sponsors are offering a download study guide, teachers’ advisory and entry form at this site.
