AFL-CIO, Chamber of Commerce heads break bread

Nice to know that some ideological opposites can still break bread together, even in these fractious times. The Loop spied Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka enjoying a quite civil breakfast together at the Hay-Adams on Thursday.

Though they’re often on opposite sides of issues, the two shared a table in a corner, and appeared to be getting along famously. According to the Hill newspaper, the two “seem to share a genuine friendship” and sometimes catch lunch at the Hay or nearby Equinox restaurant.

And there may be more than small talk at the table: the Hill says the two men are considering a joint push on immigration reform, which would be an unusually powerful alliance between their often-sparring organizations.

Wonder if hyper-partisan members of Congress are taking note?
