Democrats join mud-slinging; text donations okayed; and the best convention eats (read-this roundup)

Here’s what the Loop is reading Thursday morning:

Paul Ryan and Joe Biden prepare to sling mud.
Battle is joined — Why is the presidential campaign uglier than ever? Dana Milbank explains: “because the Democrats are no longer simply whining about the other side being reckless and unfair: They are being reckless and unfair themselves.”

Dialing donations — Donating via text message is A-OK, says the FEC. Campaigns might LOL all the way to the bank, but only if they get the right systems up and running before Election Day.

Convention chow — Even though the Tampa strip clubs are boasting about their cuisine, there are better restaurants to be found there — and at the site of the Democrats’ confab in Charlotte. Our colleague Tom Sietsema has a roundup of the best eats in both cities.
