Diplo-chefs carry big whisks; introducing the Castro twins; fact and fiction in Charlotte (read-this roundup)

Here’s what the Loop is reading Wednesday morning:

Local “Top Chef” contestant Mike Isabella is part of the State Department’s new chef corps. (Astrid Riecken - FTWP)
Creating a stir — There’s a new front in diplomacy, and it carries a big whisk. Our colleague Tom Sietsema reports on a new corps, formed by the State Department, of top chefs who promote U.S.culture and food abroad. Nifty uniforms, too: “navy-blue jackets set off with an American flag, the seal of the State Department and their names embroidered in gold on the front.”

Better than one — The Castro twins are the new darlings of the Democratic convention. Julian is mayor of San Antonio, and Joaquin is running for Congress in Texas. Our colleagues at the Reliable Source have the backstory on this rising-star duo.

Check, one, two... — The Fact Checker is working overtime to call out the falsehoods, embellishments and omissions emanating from Charlotte, N.C.
