FAA’s safety motto dogs Babbitt, and a billionaire who’s for Obama...and Romney (read-this roundup)

That’s adding extra heat on FAA chief Randy Babbitt, our colleagues Ashley Halsey III and Mary Pat Flaherty report, who was arrested on a drunk-driving charge Saturday night.

Elsewhere, we were intrigued by a detail in our colleague T.W. Farnham’s piece about billionaire donors in the presidential race. Apparently, President Barack Obama’s richest donor also gave to GOP candidate Mitt Romney. The guy apparently didn’t rack up that $10.1 billion fortune by being dumb, and giving to both sides sounds like a safe investment strategy.

And this casually tossed-off line in the Reliable Source’s write-up of a fancy-schmancy gathering might spell trouble for Newt Gingrich, as he seeks the GOP presidential nomination: “It wasn’t weird to see Newt Gingrich at the Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday night — heck, he’s a regular at the opera and elsewhere in the District,” the column reports.

A Beltway regular who’s often in black tie? Doesn’t scream “outsider” to us.
