GOP debates as sitcoms; Bachmann likes Bachman-Turner Overdrive; and pols buying porn (read-this roundup)

Last night’s GOP debate between Newt Gingrich and Jon Huntsman might have literally put people to sleep (our colleagues Amy Gardner, Karen Tumulty and Phil Rucker note that some answers were so long they had some in the audience ”drifting off”).

But the Republican face-offs are, apparently, must-see TV. Today’s TV Column by our colleague Lisa de Moraes reveals that Saturday’s debate drew a big audience — and there have been so many GOP debates that if it were a TV series (just think of the possibilities!) it would have more aired episodes than current shows “Playboy Club,” “Free Agents,” or “How to be a Gentleman.”

In today’s package on Rep. Michele Bachmann (it’s one in a series of packages on many GOP presidential candidates) we glean a few interesting tidbits, like the fact that her favorite song is “Takin’ Care of Business” by Bachman-Turner Overdrive and that her weapon of choice is “the lightweight, semiautomatic AR-15 rifle.”

Elsewhere, politicians by the dozens are buying porn... domain names. Our colleagues Hayley Tsukayama and Ylan Q. Mui report today that among those people snapping up the new .xxx domain suffix to be used exclusively for porn are politicians pre-emptively buying their own names to protect them from being linked with x-rated content.

Barackobama.xxx? Already taken.
