Hurricane Sandy’s first effects felt in Washington

Hurricane Sandy blasts into Cuba (Ramon Espinosa - AP)
Hurricane Sandy looks to be potentially a major disaster for this region.

So a discussion panel of experts on the role philanthropy can play in helping communities during disasters — and in efforts to rebuild afterward — seemed most timely.

Then we got an e-mail Friday from the Center for Strategic and International Studies telling us the conference Monday evening has been “Postponed Due to Weather.”

“Due to the impact of Hurricane Sandy on travel, CSIS has made the decision to POSTPONE the event “Toward More Effective Disaster Philanthropy.”

They promised an “updated invitation as soon as a new date has been scheduled.”
