Pols’ first campaigns; great egg-spectations in Congress; McGovern looks ahead to 100th birthday (read-this roundup)

Here’s what the Loop is reading this morning:

Ron Wyden was once a campaign rookie. (THE OREGONIAN)
Rookie remembrances — In a feature from The Washington Post’s Sunday magazine, politicians recall the wacky rides on their first campaigns. Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) picked baby blue for her campaign color because it was her favorite shade, and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) wound up with denture cream in his eyes...

Great egg-spectations — We’re so glad Congress finally got cracking on this one. This week’s action in Congress includes a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing on a bill establishing “a uniform national standard for the housing and treatment of egg-laying hens.”

Party guy -- George McGovern celebrated his 90th birthday with an all-star roster of Democratic guests. The former U.S. senator’s wish: “Let’s do this again in about 10 years.”
