Skinny-dipping scandal: State Department spokeswoman ‘not going to wade’ into it

The scandal over Republican staffers and Members of Congress (including one nude lawmaker) who took an alcohol-fueled swim during an official trip to Israel has become the butt of many a pun-ster’s jokes and will no doubt be fodder for late-night comedians for weeks to come.

But even typically straight-laced Washington types are getting into the laugh act.

Asked Monday at a press briefing whether the State Department planned to update its advisories for Israel, warning travelers--particularly certain members of Congress, one reporter cheekily submitted--about the hazards of swimming in the Sea of Galilee, spokeswoman Victoria Nuland displayed a quick wit.

“I’m not going to wade into that one at all.”
