The supercommittee’s Halloween agenda

Remember back when the cool thing for members of Congress to do was to find a date from across the aisle for the State of the Union address?
Sen. Patty Murray, right, and Rep. Jeb Hensarling, left ... or is it the other way around? (J. Scott Applewhite - Associated Press)

Well, that was sooo 10 months ago. The new trend in bipartisanship: dressing up as your favorite member of the opposite party.

At least that’s what Sen. Patty Murray is doing. The Washington Democrat, who is co-chairing the debt-reduction “supercommittee,” joked (or so we think) to our colleague Paul Kane that her Halloween costume this year would be an homage to her Republican co-chairman, Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas.

“I’m coming as Jeb,” she quipped.

We’re pretty sure you can’t pick up a Hensarling get-up at your neighborhood costume store. And what would it look like, anyway? Maybe a cape and a suit emblazoned with an “S” for supercommittee?
