Valentine’s Day at the RNC

Ah, Valentine’s Day, a time for candlelight, romance. . . and shameless political opportunism.

Not that, as they say, there’s anything wrong with that. On top of the V-day fund-raisers happening Tuesday, the Republican National Committee is using the lovey-dovey holiday to bash Democrats (and collect a few e-mail addresses along the way). The RNC’s annual batch of Valentine’s Day e-cards are up.

The cards feature the mugs of prominent Democrats, accompanied by cheeky sentiments.

Some of the messages are obvious: Next to a photo of former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), who famously got in trouble after some naughty tweeting, there’s this line “If anyone asks, I didn’t send you this Valentine.” Next to a photo of Rep. Nancy Pelosi there’s “Just wanted to see if you missed me.”

And some take a little deciphering. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s card reads, “You always see right through me.” Huh? Oh wait, after a sip of coffee, we realized that’s a reference to those controversial TSA body scans.
