Washington’s dog days (RSVP)

Washington might finally have gone to the dogs. Two — count ’em, two — events today celebrate man’s best friend.

First, the American Humane Association will hold a celebration on Capitol Hill in honor of four-legged war heroes — the pups who serve with the armed forces — as well as the therapy dogs who help veterans cope with PTSD. (Cute alert: Several dogs will be on hand, er, paw for the event, including Iraq vet Working Military Dog Bino C152.)

Then tonight, the Washington Animal Rescue League holds a discussion about the pets of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., a category that technically includes cats, but c’mon, who can remember a White House cat besides poor Socks?
