On Monday, the Loop (foolishly) thought we had already found top contenders for the Quote of the Week, but the very next day, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) blew away the competition.
McCaskill, some will remember, risked the Clinton wrath when she endorsed then-Sen. Barack Obama over then-Sen. Hillary Clinton early in the 2008 Democratic primary. But she’s now all team Hillary, joining the chorus of Democrats hoping Clinton runs in 2016. (Actually, in an allegiance reversal, she said recently that her red state Democratic colleagues should not campaign beside Obama this year.)
Still, even if wounds heal and hurt feelings fade, McCaskill is realistic about her relationship status with Clinton. Asked about it by her home state newspaper this week, she said the two women were “fine.”
“Are we besties for the rest of our lives?” McCaskill added. “No.”
