It’s worth noting that this is the only place to see my collection of the best in the week’s videos. Also, it's sharable, and it’s not landing in your inbox like other newsletters.
[View the story "Ideas@Innovations Wrap-up #3" on Storify ]Ideas@Innovations Wrap-up #3 The Dragon capsule floated in space on its way to the International Space Station, Peter Thiel is singing a siren song to America's youth (according to Vivek Wadhwa) and 'CmdrTaco' offers his take on immortality. Yes, it's time -- yet again -- for the week that was in Innovation. Storified by Emi Kolawole · Fri, May 25 2012 12:19:27
Monday ICYMI: Our own Vivek Wadhwa was on CBS's 60 Minutes this past weekend. So, we, naturally, started the week with his follow-up on Peter Thiel's then-most recent appearance advocating for kids to reconsider going to college:

Tuesday The day started at 2:30 in the morning, at which point I promptly made the Twitter error (hastily corrected) that the SpaceX launch was happening in 30 minutes, when I had the glory of a full hour's wait ahead of me. Well, it was worth it. The launch happened and Twitter was ablaze. I live blogged. It was, in the end, a great start to the day.

Then, I started wondering about who, exactly was behind the launch. A note to NASA and SpaceX: more photos of your staff please.

Then our colleagues over at Wonkblog (in this case Suzy Khimm, specifically) had this science fiction lover swooning by writing this beauty:

And that brings us to the video of the day: The SpaceX launch was too obvious. Also, I'm a huge Great Gatsby fan. I am also a gigantic Baz Luhrmann fan. This means that this is where you will find me on Christmas Day -- experiencing sensory overload by watching a film where the extravagance of the story is matched only by that of the director.

Wednesday It was mobile Wednesday! Okay, that's not really a thing for us, but we started the day with coverage of a new study from the Brookings Institution on mobile and the future of health care:

Rob Malda, aka "CmdrTaco," has a touching story of a short piece online and how the Internet grants us all immortality:

Then, of course, there was that Wall Street Journal finding about the (dare we say it) death of innovation as a buzzword. Actually, we're not sad about this at all. Keep reading to find out why...

And the SpaceX Dragon capsule continues to make its way towards the International Space Station:

And we went digging through the video archives and came up with a gem from Eric Ries, which is surprisingly relevant to the debate over Nick Hanauer's TED talk (and the controversy or non-controversy, depending on how you want to look at it).
About Nick Hanauer's TED talk: Eric Ries on why rich people are not 'job creators' (Flashback)Posted at 03:30 PM ET, 05/24/2012 There was a bit of a dust-up last week over a TED talk - a dust-up that has carried well into this week...

In other news,
DARPA posted a press release detailing their collaboration with TechShop. It's looking like D.C. is going to get a TechShop of our very own (and DARPA's)...
@emikolawole Here's some more info on our partnership with @DARPA: http://www.darpa.mil/NewsEvents/Releases/2012/05/24.aspxTechShop
Here's an excerpt: "Now, thanks to a new collaboration between DARPA, the Department of Veterans Affairs and TechShop, a test-bed will exist to examine new methods and various approaches to creating an effective iFAB. At the same time, the facilities provide a space for innovators to access industrial tools, training and equipment needed to pursue their own 'make' ideas without the need for affiliation with a large manufacturer. The Department of Veterans Affairs, through its Center for Innovation, will make TechShop memberships available to veterans. "The VA Innovations team is excited to collaborate with TechShop and DARPA in providing cutting-edge training and equipment for veterans seeking to become more competitive in the job market or aiming to become successful entrepreneurs," said Jonah Czerwinski, director of the VA's Center for Innovation. "This effort supports the VA interest in finding new ways of providing veterans with resources that help them serve an important role in America's economy.""
And that brings us to... Video of the day: Thursday's video came via the best-of-the-Web-finder Maria Popova. Just sit back and tap your feet.

Google also released the first video taken using their Google glasses. We got the story via Venture Beat:

And that brings us to the Video of the Day. Since it's a long weekend, we're making it a short Friday. This Friday I'm featuring my former colleague (now gone to that other paper up in New York :) ), Mike McPhate. Here he is playing probably the best piece of music I've heard all week.
