Fighting Kudzu with helium (video)

Congratulations. You’ve made it more than half way through the day. But you may not be sure you’ll make it through the rest of the day awake.

It’s time for the afternoon pick-u-up.

Meet Jacob Schindler. He’s 17, and he has a fight on his hands: battling the aggressive Kudzu vine in Georgia. What started off as a science project to see if Kudzu could grow on Mars eventually turned into an effort to combat the weed.

Since it was first imported to the United States from Asia over 135 years ago, Kudzu has grown out of control in some places. By injecting helium into the roots, Schindler appears to have found a way to rid once overgrown areas of the notorious plant.
