Acura’s next-generation MDX SUV is previewed at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit with a larger interior, newly available front-wheel drive and new technology on the inside. The new MDX may look similar to the current generation, but it rides on a longer wheelbase for additional second-row passenger room and easier access to the third row.

A revised engine and improved aerodynamics aim to increase fuel efficiency while new multimedia and safety technologies make their debut. Labeled a “prototype,” the production seven-passenger SUV shouldn’t look much different when it goes on sale in mid-2013. The MDX’s interior wasn’t available at the show, so check out the MDX Prototype’s exterior below.
