Airport police: A lone shooter

Pat Gannon, LAX chief of police, said “a large amount of chaos” unfolded at the airport.

The suspected shooter took an assault rifle out of a bag and opened fire in the terminal, Gannon said during a news conference. After that, the shooter went into the area where TSA screeners are before going back into the airport itself, according to Gannon.

“We believe at this point there was a lone shooter,” he said.

Gannon said police believe the shooter was the only person armed in this situation.
