It is official: Horseshoe Baltimore will open Aug. 26, casino officials announced Thursday, just after a meeting of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission.
At the meeting, Vice Chair Diane McGraw said she was looking forward to the big day. Her fellow commissioners also appeared pleased by Horseshoe General Manager Chad Barnhill’s report that half of the more than 2,000 job offers that Horseshoe has made so far have gone to Baltimore residents.
With two months to go until the grand opening, swarms of construction workers could be seen along the Worcester Street end of the building. The more finished-looking Russell Street side sported a giant banner of Food Network star Guy Fieri, who is opening a restaurant inside and will soon find out whether his food gets a better reception in Charm City than the one he got in New York last year.
And in case anyone forgot, Horseshoe’s nearest rival, Maryland Live! in Hanover, has taken pains to let any visitors within 100 feet of the new casino know they have an alternative.
