No surprises in the team competition of rhythmic gymnastics as Russia won the gold medal Sunday at Wembley Arena. Belarus took the silver, 1.5 points behind Russia, and Italy the bronze, just .05 of a point behind Belarus.

Evgeniya Kanaeva defended her gold medal in the individual all-around final in rhythmic gymnastics, winning by more than two points over teammate Daria Dmitrieva at Wembley Arena. Liubou Charkashyna of Belarus won the bronze with 111.700 points. The final of the team competition is Sunday.

Julie Zetlin of Bethesda failed to qualify for the rhythmic gymnastics final in the individual all-around Friday at Wembley Arena. Russians Evgeniya Kanaeva, the defending gold medalist, and Daria Dmitrieva finished 1-2 in qualifying for Saturday’s final. Only 10 athletes from the field of 24 moved on to the final; Zetlin finished 21st.
