Chip DiPaula, who worked as campaign manager and chief of staff to former Maryland governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R), has sent a fundraising appeal in support of the same-sex marriage measure appearing on the November ballot.
DiPaula references another job -- that of convention manager for the Republican National Committee 12 years ago -- in the letter soliciting money for Marylanders for Marriage Equality.
“As members of my party gather in Tampa for the Republican National Convention, I wanted to write to you about an issue that I believe transcends party lines -- the issue of marriage equality and fairness for every American,” DiPaula says in the appeal.
The solicitation comes as both sides gear up for a more visible campaign over one of several high-profile issues on Maryland’s November ballot.
Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) signed a same-sex marriage bill into law in March, but it was promptly petitioned to the statewide ballot.
