Jon Stewart mocks O’Malley’s post-debate spin

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) got some more national attention Thursday night, but probably not the kind he’s looking for.

O’Malley, who traveled to Denver this week to spin the press on President Obama’s debate performance, was the first Obama surrogate featured in a segment on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Comedy Central.

The name of the segment: “Polish that turd.”

“To the layman, President Obama looked lethargic and out of it,” Stewart told the audience, before cutting to a post-debate clip of O’Malley.

“President Obama handled himself with a dignified reserve that we’ve all seen as part of who President Obama is,” O’Malley said in an interview that followed the debate.

Stewart then cut to another clip in which O’Malley used the same “dignified reserve” phrase, adding: “That’s one of the admirable qualities about this president.”

“Polish that turd” appeared on the screen as O’Malley spoke.
