One year of red bikes — that’s it?!?
(Gerald Martineau - FOR THE WASHINGTON POST)
Astoundingly, Capital Bikeshare is one year old today. Has any previous government initiative this cheap affected the municipal landscape so dramatically in such a short time?
By the numbers: “Since its launch in 2010, the bikesharing system has attracted over 17,000 members, logged nearly one million trips and amassed a total of 116 stations and 1,100 bicycles in the District and Arlington, VA, with more than 60 additional stations on the way.”
In you’re in a mood to celebrate, Capital Bikeshare is hosting a “Birthday Bash” on Thursday at Yards Park (near Nationals Park) from 6 to 9 p.m. There’s going to be live music, food trucks, free cupcakes and soft drinks, giveaways, moon bounces, a raffle, and, of course, a Bikeshare corral.
