D.C. Emancipation Day in pictures

Earlier today on Pennsylvania Avenue NW (Bill O'Leary - WASHINGTON POST)
This sesquicentennial D.C. Emancipation Day comes to a close this evening with a fireworks show down by Freedom Plaza, capping a sunny day that was perfect for a Pennsylvania Avenue parade of flags and politicos and lots and lots of drums. There’s still time to head on down if you can.

If you can’t, then be sure to read Joe Heim’s Style section fronter on two D.C. memorials that “tell vastly different stories about the Civil War, African Americans and their journey to freedom” — the Lincoln Park Emancipation Memorial and the African American Civil War Memorial.

And, after the jump, check out today’s festivities in pictures and tweets.
