So the Giro d’Italia did not start in D.C. this year, as ex-mayor Adrian M. Fenty once hoped it would. Why not? Chief executives on both sides of the Atlantic lost their jobs, according to Cycling News. Fenty’s defeat sidelined the race’s biggest stateside advocate, while the Giro director Fenty had been in talks with was also ousted. Oh, and this: It’s expensive, disruptive and of questionable logic to start a race through Italy more than 4,000 miles away.
