The District’s unemployment rate is at a “nearly record high” of 11.1 percent, V. Dion Haynes reports in the Post. In February 1983, city unemployment peaked at 11.6 percent. “This is concerning,” said Benjamin Orr, a Brookings Institution expert. An unemployment rate that high, he said, “is a difficult position not only for the District, but you have to think about all those people behind the numbers and how they’re dealing with being unemployed.”
