For certain D.C. politicos, it’s the white whale. The ultimate prize. The crowning achievement. The Washington Redskins. Which is why Mayor Vincent C. Gray and D.C. Council members Jack Evans and Michael Brown slipped quietly down to Tampa this weekend to check out an NFL training facility that is very much the one the Redskins would like to have. It was quiet, anyway, until someone let slip the trip to Deborah Simmons of the Washington Times. This much is certain — the dealmaking will have to be handled less hamfistedly than this news was. For Gray, his surreptition and late disclosure turned the story into yet another mayoral travel controversy. More from WRC-TV, WTOP, Loose Lips.
