Here’s an astounding fact: We have no idea how much our government is spending to prosecute local crimes. “Our government,” in this case, is the federal government, and Del Wilber reports that the Justice Department refuses to cough up how much the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District is spending. U.S. Attorney Ron Machen “declined to release the budget figure even though other U.S. attorneys have made such information public in press releases describing their own seizures.”
