At 9:30 Thursday morning, former D.C. Council member Harry Thomas Jr. will appear in a federal courtroom to receive his sentence for stealing more than $350,000 in city funds. The leader of the government he stole from, Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D), addressed the matter at a news conference today. “I feel very badly for his family. I don’t understand why this happened,” he said. “It was a shocker to me that it did happen. ... He’s got a wonderful wife, a wonderful mom. He has a wonderful family, and I extend my heart to them in hopes that they will be able to get through this.”
