
Fenty, handing over the governmental reins at Gray’s inauguration

One year ago, on Sept. 14, 2010, Vincent C. Gray
defeated incumbent Adrian M. Fenty in the Democratic mayoral primary, securing Gray’s ascension to the District’s top elected position.
It’s worth reflecting that the two men are probably feeling somewhat differently today than they did in the aftermath of the election.
Gray, who won an astounding victory but suffered from a slow-starting and uneven transition effort, has been mired in political controversy and has seen his approval ratings dip. Fenty — now a lawyer, consultant, corporate adviser, education advocate, political pundit and professor — delivered a convocation address last night at his alma mater, Oberlin College.
