Not all D.C. politicos drive luxury SUVs

(Denise Tolliver)
Lest you were thinking all District politicians drive luxury sports utility vehicles, behold Phil Mendelson’s new Ford Focus hatchback. The at-large D.C. Council member chose to replace his 1998 Mercury Mystique when faced with some rather pricey repairs.

“It rates a nine out of 10 on the EPA green scale. It has European handing; it’s [United Auto Workers]-made,” Mendelson said Thursday, explaining his decision. There is some domestic dissension with the choice, however: “My daughter announced last night she didn’t like the car because of the exterior color,” he said. She wanted a lighter shade of blue.

Now in contention for the D.C. Council’s homeliest ride: Jack Evans’s 2004 Chysler Sebring convertible.
