Queen Silvia of Sweden joined Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D) Thursday afternoon to honor students in an engineering program at Phelps High School. The students interned with Skanska USA, the Swedish-owned firm that is managing the $300 million 11th Street Bridge project in Southeast Washington, through the queen’s Mentor Foundation.
The regal rendezvous took place at the bridge project’s construction headquarters east of the Washington Navy Yard. This evening, the queen is scheduled to attend a gala event for the Mentor Foundation at the Four Seasons in Georgetown.
