Who’s old is new again

Former mayor Adrian Fenty’s friend has continued to thrive under the new regime (Marvin Joseph — The Washington Post)

Remember Keith Lomax — the former basketball star turned city contractor who not so long ago served as Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s chauffeur? Well, his patron might be out of office, but Lomax’s construction firm has continued to do big business in D.C., billing the city for millions on school construction projects. In City Paper, Alan Suderman raises questions about just how much of that work Lomax’s firm is doing itself — much of it, if not most, appears to be contracted out to other firms at a premium. Mostly, however, city construction officials are unable or unwilling to answer basic queries about the work, he writes: “It’s an uneasy silence that raises uncomfortable questions about whether city officials who oversee school construction are oblivious to potential problems involving a contractor who once had very powerful ties, or are just looking the other way.”
